When I read the prompt my first instinct was to visit the technology page to see what there mission or goals are for the district. That search was disappointing and interesting what is this "School Dude Quick Step Guide" ? School Dude ?
While taking Scott's class we established that our district needs more information on digital citizenship it should be a huge portion of the technology page. Schools need to focus on educating staff and students on digital citizenship. There also at first glance appeared to be no clear mission statement involving technology. Why train teachers to be innovative with no clear mission except BYOD.I I would like more of a plan from technology that supports innovative teachers creating classrooms that inspire students to create with technology. I was also at a meeting with other fellow innovators who shared the focus for PD next year is on pedagogy. This made me decide to read through the Strategic plan. I was pleasantly surprised as I read through the plan. This did take some digging it wasn't just there to be easily found but within the strategic plan I found this goal #2 2. Students experience responsive, engaging pedagogy a. Implement inquiry-based learning grounded in State standards utilizing high-impact instructional strategies. b. Establish a District standard for technology purchases and use in the areas of front of classroom, student/staff devices, blended learning portal/Intranet, and social media. c. Use of District-supported technology tools, devices, platforms, resources and applications to support student creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and personalized learning. d. Provide professional development and support for culturally and linguistically responsive teaching. e. Ensure English Learners access to English language development throughout the day. f. Promote and expand opportunities for NVUSD students, such as dual immersion and the Seal of Biliteracy, to instill multicultural competency and bilingualism. So I highlighted and italicized the areas sound encouraging and innovative. The front of the classrooms I believe speaks to an investment into projectors/boards for all classrooms. After at first feeling discouraged I am going to focus on the potential that these lines offer, the room for growth and interpretation. I feel that there is a need to grow our use of technology in meaningful ways and I believe Cohort 16 is going to make some noise and get attention establishing innovation in our classes.
